Ruth, a New Jersey native, retired to Arizona a decade ago after more than thirty years in Illinois. After college, she taught school for several years and spent twenty-five years as a librarian. mostly in public, theological and law libraries. She is married and has three grown children, none of whom live in Arizona which gives her the opportunity to travel often. Ruth began sewing as a child. She always admired the beauty and workmanship in handmade quilts and finally began making them herself after she retired. She is a member of the Tucson Quilters Guild where she has served as Education Chair and Beekeeper. She works with the Guild’s Quilting for Others Bee and is secretary for Quilt for a Cause, Inc. a 501(c)(3) organization based in Tucson that uses quilting as a vehicle for raising money to fight breast and gynecologic cancers. Aside from family and her various quilting activities, Ruth spends time exploring the desert flora and fauna, reading and playing with her cat.
