Welcome

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Image February is such a short month. It feels defined by the colors red, pink and white.

If you’re not busy eating chocolates or crafting with paper hearts, take a look at our event calendar. It’s certainly quilt show season! I believe that there’s at least one quilting activity every weekend from now through mid-March! If your quilt group is sponsoring a show or exhibit, send us your information as soon as you can - you can submit directly on this web site. We’re happy to include your event here too!

Congratulations to our very own Willene Smith of Strawberry for being named one of Arizona Cardinals’ Charities Community Quarterbacks for 2010. We’re so proud!

And, don’t forget, be thinking of who you will nominate for inclusion in Arizona Quilters Hall of Fame.
Nomination forms are now available. While anyone may nominate a deserving quilter for inclusion in the Hall of Fame, if you want to vote, you must be a Friend of Arizona Quilters Hall of Fame. Make your friendship donation today!

See you at the quilt show!

QUILTER NAMED COMMUNITY QUARTERBACK

Congratulations to Willene Smith, Hall of Fame Board Member and long-time Strawberry resident. Willene was named one of Arizona Cardinals’ Charities 2010 Community Quarterbacks. Each year, the Cardinals recognize individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to the quality of life in Arizona through volunteerism. Willene was recognized primarily for her creation of an on-going involvement in the DPS Quilt Project. Through this project, volunteers make and donate quilts which are used by Department of Public Safety Officers in emergency situations. Begun in the early 1980s, almost 6,500 quilts have been donated in this on-going project. We’re so proud of Willene!

CLASS OF 2010 - NOMINATE AND VOTE!

Nomination forms for the Class of 2010 are now available and will be accepted between March 15 and May 15, 2010. Friends of Arizona Quilters Hall of Fame will receive a summary of ALL those nominated for inclusion in the Hall of Fame. Friends will vote for whom they believe to be most deserving of consideration. The Board of Directors, taking these votes into consideration, will then make the final determination on who will be included in the Class of 2010. The inductee receiving the highest number of Friends’ votes will be designated the 2010 “Friends’ Favorite” and their recognition will be so inscribed. Anyone may nominate a deserving Arizona quilter for the Hall of Fame, but, to vote you must be a Friend.

The Class of 2010 will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame at our Annual Induction Luncheon, Sunday, September 26. The event, being held at the Fiesta Resort and Conference Center, Tempe, will feature a three course, plated and served luncheon; an exhibit of Hall of Fame Award-Winning quilts; and vignettes showcasing the work of the Class of 2010.
